2024 -- Downsizing to Mount Washington
With Warren Schomaker continuing to decline, we began visiting Jackson, NH, almost every other week
to support Leslie. Warren's 100th birthday on January 27th was a huge outpouring of support
from all around the state. We brought Aspen (of course) and stopped in Northampton
so she could visit Tully, Chata, and Vini.
We were in Leslie's living room with Robin Clark when Warren passed on February 24.
Decision to move was made shortly thereafter; immediately started divestment of belongings
(antiques to Liz, Furniture Sharehouse; Freecycle; Butterscotch auction, Facebook).
Staged 23MH; listed May 2; three bids "over"; contract on May 7; closing scheduled for July 17;
(but Comeys later postponed to Aug 13).
Leslie to NYC with us to Tess' graduation June 11.
Movers emptied 23MH on July 17. Judith Economos died July 18 so our Sarasota trip cancelled.
Again visited Austins in Charlestown RI, and back to Jackson for closing on 348 Carter Notch Road August 2.
Tess a freshman at USC, so "Trojan Family Weekend" in Los Angeles with Butlers Sept 25-29
(also went to LA Dodgers game and Big 10 Football game in Colliseum! USC beat Wisc 38-21).
Ted bought new red F150 on September 30; Nancy bought new RAV4 Prime November 13.
Extremely busy with house improvements; no time for pickleball (!)
2023 -- Back to normal, or "new normal" ...
Nancy sold Halle; now more time for volunteering at Community Center, Audubon Society, Land Trust, pilates every week,
plus more consulting with John Larson (Relievant again).
Visited Princeton for Eric Monberg's 74th (March 4); made tribute video for Don Thompson's 80th (March 12).
Kysa and Kate moved into 28 Maple Ave in April; looking nice although construction not completed by Hans Dalhaus.
Visited Leslie and Warren (99) in Jackson on May 25-29.
(Warren is declining; Leslie the sole caregiver).
Kysa and Kate Wedding weekend June 17th in Northampton.
All grandchildren visited Bedford for Nancy's birthday week as usual (this year 15 humans and 6 dogs 😀).
Viking river cruise on Rhine July 15-27. Weather forced us to fly to Milano, then Basel,
then cruised to Netherlands but our luggage didn't catch up until mid cruise in France!
Ted had total knee replacement (right) on August 4 then Atrial Flutter landing him in hospital Sept 21st.
Operation to repair the A-Flutter on Sept 29 was (apparently) successful
(transesophageal echocardiogram and cardiac ablation).
Nancy and Leslie to Galapagos in November.
Three-week trip with O.A.T to Cyprus, Egypt, Suez Canal, Jordan in December!
2022 -- Pandemic subsiding???
We joined the Intergenerate Chicken Co-operative to start the year. Aspen had tail surgery Feb 2.
Many home repairs during pandemic: boiler (3 times), water softener, BlueStar range, Generac (twice), Rumford fireplace, chimney sweep...
We started getting "out" a little: visited Leslie in New Hampshire and Nancy skied; Eric Monberg's birthday in Princeton.
New RAV4 Prime repair took a month (!) so we had a loaner car. Ted's back spasm 3/29 to E.R. (first back injury ever!)
Ted did Archimedes scholarships again. Nancy did consulting assignment with John Larson (Relievant).
Construction: Austins addition/renovation completed (stunning!); Construction: Kysa's addition plans completed and construction begun!
Visited Economos kingdom in Sarasota again - spectacular - and Wendy Mager babysat Aspen!
Large neighborhood party June 5. We attended 4 galas this Spring (expensive) so the pandemic seems almost over.
Paved driveway just before full family arrived for Nancy's birthday week (15 humans, 5 dogs)!
Then to NYC for Broadway play "Aladdin" (15 seats in Mezz first row!)
Thanksgiving at the Austins in their "new house," exciting but the first year not at our house... 😞
December: we cancelled Christmas and New Years plans and parties when both Nancy and Ted got Covid! (double 😞 😞)
Nancy decided to sell Halle (triple 😢 😢 😢)
2021 -- Pandemic continued...
Moderna covid vaccinations 2/11 and 3/12. Booster November 11th.
Kysa and Kate took the 2019 RAV4 so Nancy could get a new plug-in hybrid (RAV4 Prime).
We visited the Economos "collection" at Longboat Key in May; what a trip!
Nancy's pool-hill garden professionally revamped.
Got new puppy Tully, then another new puppy Aspen.
Andrew Austin new job at PureVida, and Austins start renovation/addition.
Kysa and Kate working with architect prepping for addition/renovation also.
Charlestown, RI, is new vacation choice for all family.
Wonderful Thanksgiving in Bedford with the full extended family, total 15 humans in the house and now 5 dogs (Lola, Piper, Tully, Ike, Aspen).
2020 -- Pandemic beginning March!
Instead of skiing this year, we went to Acapulco with Laura Edwards.
Ted judged at one FRC event just before everything was cancelled. We stayed home (!) as did almost everyone.
Rebuilt the workbench in the workshop.
Butlers moved to Bedford April 5th and we cohabitated for 5 months, a delightful unanticipated benefit from the pandemic..
Julian motivated for a "houseboat" that was the hit sensation in the pool all summer.
The pool patio was extended across the entire south side.
Helper Gabriel Garcia continued to assist me with myriad projects every week, such as refinishing the lower level's window ledge, painting the shed, etc.
We were still able to have all grandchildren families here for Mimi's birthday in July.
Huge storm August 4 took down dozens of trees.
2019 -- Started the new year skiing with Dan Stowell at Copper and Aspen.
Ted again at 4 FRC Regionals this year; named Volunteer of the Year at Hudson Valley Regional.
Kat and Andrew took Lexus RX450h and Mimi got a new car (hybrid RAV4 XSE Sport).
Tess won first place in FLOOR at states (way to go!).
Another Canada vacation in July: visit Thompsons in Bathurst; PEI tour including Fireworks at Inn at Bay Fortune; Nova Scotia and back to Saint John.
Kristin started new job at Wells Fargo (as MD). Andrew Austin started new job at TrueMotion (gotruemotion.com).
Saratoga Races with breeder Vivian Malloy in August (spectacular).
Celebrated Liz Norris' 80th birthday (9/21) at her new house in Medway (MA), then visited Leslie and Warren Schomaker in Jackson NH and learned pickle ball.
Fabulous November cruise on Grand Circle from Normandy to Paris.
Rebuilt the main floor exterior overhang to correct minor rotted fascia.
2018 -- Worked on Kysa's new house, prep for move in. Skiing in Park City again in January, Copper Mountain in February.
FRC Regionals in Utica, Troy, Suffern. Lived in main floor MBR while Master Bathroom upstairs was renovated.
Canada vacation in June: Quebec City; train to Montreal; Rotary convention in Toronto. James Norris and
Meghan Barry wedding in August. Grand Circle cruise on the Danube in November, Budapest to Prague. New balcony off master bedroom.
Kathryn donated a kidney!
2017 -- Fabulous 50th Reunion at MIT in June.
Skied Whitefish (Montana) with the Lafayette skiers, then Utah (Deer Valley, Park City) with Dan Stowell.
Ted very active organizing the first FIRST FRC Regional in Hudson Valley. Bungalow on Cape Cod again (last time?).
Mini-family get-together in Holyoke for Riley Austin's state gymnastics meet. NY Mets games with Jack Rose.
Kysa bought 28 Maple Ave house in December.
2016 -- Skied Telluride with Lafayette Ski Club, then Sunapee with grandchildren. Fence around pool finished.
Pool opened Memorial Day for grandchildren (85 degrees!). Toured Fingerlakes in June. Bungalow again in August.
Austins get Lola; Dru left Reebok December 5 for Sidekick; we went to Ritz Carlton in Puerto Rico.
Helped Debbie Daum start Beadeverything.
Bedford Democratic Committee new website; Ted as secretary to BDC and Treasurer to the multicandidate committee.
2015 -- Construction almost finished on 23 Meeting House Rd. Skiing Breckenridge and Aspen (as usual, but maybe for the last time?).
Kentucky Derby (141) with Butlers.
Ted got his second all-electric car (BMW i3). Kristin and Patrick bought new apartment in 30 West 15 Street.
Our "regular" summer vacation at the Bungalow in Cape Cod was again a success.
Ted officially retired from the College at the end of the academic year (September 1).
Maine with Eric and Wendy in October.
2014 -- Bought new home at 23 Meeting House Rd in Bedford (March). Renovation started in July.
BeadsWest closed March 18 after landlord bought out our lease.
Aspen skiing for 13th consecutive year with the Moguls and Dumplings.

to New Zealand again anyway! Skied Vail instead of Aspen this year. Kysa and Arin were married August 11 in Berkeley
Botanical Garden's Redwood Grove. Melanoma on Ted's chest removed in September. Kysa began as Asst. Prof. at UC Santa Cruz. Year-end buyout of Gray Horan from Beadworks Providence.

21st. RCS sold to Clear Channel while we were in Aspen. Nancy and Ted to New
Zealand vacation for Ted's birthday.

Flew Apache with Jim Leonard to San Juan, PR, including right engine failure and 3-week layover in Florence, SC.
Kathryn arrives before our bigger house is built. Rinda Dean is the babysitter.
1977 -- Nancy gets a job at Gallup in January, then completes her Ph.D. in June.
Started the year flying Superman`s Cherokee 140 (Chris Reeve). MIT reunion trip visiting Fisher's Island (Klaus and Vera) en route.
To Bermuda for wedding anniversary. Drawings for new house are started and topographical survey and sewer permit look OK...
Aunt Leslie gets divorced, but Aunt Liz gets married. Kysa starts UNOW, and Kristin goes to the after-school YWCA program.
1976 -- Ted flies IFR to visit Bill Wilt in Albany; special ski trip in Smuggler's Notch with Andy Snider;
take Julian Bond on campaign trail for Morris Udall; Hublein wine tasting in Boston;
fly Archibald Cox to Colt's Neck; Flew Stewart Udall to Washington DC; "sold" share of the Cherokee Six.
1975 -- Nancy and Ted take the Cherokee 180 to Vermont for skiing; to Bill Temple's on Block Island; Nantucket with Leslie+George Wilshire from Kennebunkport.
Kysa arrives in Princeton hospital. Kristin goes to Johnson Park. Kysa's babysitter is Penny Carbonaro.
Ted gets Commercial pilots license at yearend.
1974 -- Kristin attends Stuart School. Instrument rating. Cross-country flight in Cherokee Six with Jim Leonard to ARMA/Seattle then LA/Dallas/home.
1973 -- Nancy and Kristin visit Bermuda while Ted on jury duty. Ted gets CDP.
American Association of Blood Banks (Vera and Klaus Mayer arranged), so we flew everywhere, including Miami convention with Steve Feldman.
Kristin starts U-NOW. Nancy meets Roberta Sigel. Refinanced mortgage to build garage addition.
1972 -- Ted's Ph.D. was awarded. Built Kristin a playhouse in the woods. Kristin meets Mama Mucci.
1971 -- Kristin's first babysitter was Debbie Johnson. We went to ASA meeting in Denver, driving in our Impala, and the basement flooded.
Ted begins part-time commuting to NBC on loan from RCA. Nancy is teaching assistant for John Strange.
1970 -- Ted won the RCA Outstanding Achievement Award for 1969, and with the $1000 bonus bought a new Honda 450 motorcycle.
Ted gets MA. Nancy quits teaching and takes up graduate school. Housesitting for the summer in the Oppenheim's.
Moved into 459 Cherry Hill Road - our first house. Kristin came three months later.
1969 -- Our first trip to Kennebunkport for Leslie and George's wedding.
Nancy finished her BA and started teaching at Stuart Country Day school, with Ted still working full time at RCA Labs.
1968 -- Ted's summer job at RCA Labs surreptitiously became full-time when the draft board stopped acknowledging student deferments.
We moved from Eisenhower Street to King Street, near the Knapps and the Johnsons, and Nancy started commuting to NYU.
In December we got a brand new '69 Chevrolet Impala.
1967 -- On June 17th, we left Scarsdale for a Bermuda honeymoon, and returned to New York City,
where we lived in the "upper west village" near Bank and Bethune streets for the summer.
To Butler Tract in Princeton on Labor Day, and our adult life began.
